Plot Overview
Set in the early 1960s, when norms and traditions had great importance in relationships, Muklawa is a Punjabi romantic comedy. The film follows wedding couple Shinda (Ammy Virk) and Taaro (Sonam Bajwa) through the social ritual of “Muklawa,” whereby the bride may only visit her husband’s house following a designated length of time.
Shinda marries Taaro after falling in love with her; but, the separation brought about by custom drives him to create clever covert means of meeting her. Spiced with comedy and drama, the film emphasises love, innocence, and the social standards of that age.
The narrative centres on Shinda, a straightforward yet endearing villager who develops feelings for Taaro’s purity and beauty. Early in the movie, Taaro marries; but, the ‘Muklawa’ ritual keeps Taaro from living with Shinda right away. The core of the story is Shinda’s battle to win her love and see their relationship flourish. The movie combines emotional drama with comedy as Shinda tries to manage social demands by defying expectations to show his love.
